Murphy Events and Activities

Murphy Parent Council sponsors many events and activities. Here is a list of some activities we are planning for the upcoming year.

Cultural Arts

There are several occasions throughout the year where guests/groups are invited into the school for enrichment opportunities. Various performances are given for the children, themes which are discussed at our parent council meetings. Events we have planned for this year include Taiko Drums on October 7th, Skateboard Science on November 2nd, Super Hero on December 8th and Laser Science on March 3rd.

Enrichment Clubs

Starting in January we offer enrollment into Enrichment classes that meet for 1 hour after school for 8 weeks. Enrichment clubs in the past have included Sports Card trading, Architecture, Musical Theater, Computer Programming and STEM activities and many more. If you have a special skill and the time, please consider volunteering, we can always use new ideas.

Field Day

Field Day is a fun day where Mr. Murphy, our physical education teacher, puts on day of great games for the students during the end of the school year. Parent Council provides lunch for all students/staff on that day. Field Day requires many volunteers to help with the games, cook and serve lunch.

Slushy Social

Each summer before the school year starts Parent Council hold a Slushy Social where each child can meet classmates both old and new. We like to hope this helps with the first day of school jitters. It’s also a good time for families, new to Murphy, to meet each other and ask questions.

Spooky School

Last fall was our first and very successful Spooky School. We had a fun afternoon of costumes, pumpkin painting and fun games.

Technology

Each year, Parent Council works with the school to help bring technology equipment into the classroom. In past years we have helped purchase Chromebooks for the students to use in the classroom.
